There is no such thing as bad press... or is there?
On Tuesday, during a recorded podcast of his show, Steven Crowder announced that he was getting a divorce from his wife Hillary, who apparently filed for divorce in 2021.
"I have been living with a proverbial boot on my neck for going on years now; since 2021, I have been living through what has increasingly been a horrendous divorce. And no, this is not been my choice. My then-wife decided she didn't want to be married anymore. And in the State of Texas, that is completely permitted. She simply wanted out, and the law says that is how it works. It's no one else's fault but my own in that I picked wrong. And that certainly isn't the fault of my children," Crowder stated.
He goes on to talk about the situation and the stress that he has been under since his wife decided to end their marriage after ten years.
But why did he speak out? Surely there is more to the story?
Turns out, there was.
After the shocking story was made public by Crowder, Hilary's family was not too happy with his side of the story.
Independent Journalist Yashar Ali in an exclusive report received a statement from her family and was provided with a Ring video that showed the couple in a heated argument outside of their home when Hilary was pregnant.
In a statement sent to me via email, Hilary Crowder's family said:
"Hilary is currently living alone in Dallas, apart from her family and support system in Michigan, and is focused on taking care of her young children. She is not prepared at this time to speak about her divorce becoming public or the misleading statements made by Steven about their relationship.
The truth is that Hilary spent years hiding Steven's mentally and emotionally abusive behavior from her friends and family while she attempted to save their marriage. She was the one who was asking to work on their relationship to keep the marriage intact for their unborn children.
In June of 2021, Steven left their home to pursue elective surgery. Hilary urged him to get the help he needed to address his abuse with the hope that their marriage could be saved and they could peacefully live together as a family. Instead, Steven refused to do so and chose not to be with his wife during the birth of their twin children. After the birth, Steven bought a townhouse and left their home permanently. Hilary was unaware that Steven had hired a divorce attorney and asked his assistant to cut Hilary off financially. There is significant documentation substantiating these facts.
We hope that Steven will cease speaking publicly about these personal matters in an untruthful manner. We also look forward to there being full transparency in the legal process so there is fairness and accountability for the actions that caused the divorce, and to ensure the outcome is what is in the best interests of the young children."
“The only way out of this is discipline and respect,” he tells her at one point in the video. Crowder insisted that his wife needs “discipline” for not fulfilling her “wifely” duties.
Later, Hilary tells Crowder, “I love you, but your abuse is sick,” to which he replies, “Watch it. Watch it. Fucking watch it.” Hilary repeats that she loves him but says she needs space. Crowder then tells her, “I don’t love you. That’s the big problem. I’ve never received love from you.”
Crowder can be seen on a Ring Camera video berating his wife Hilary, who was at the time nearly eight months pregnant, and demanding that she handle medicine for his dogs that she was concerned was toxic to pregnant women. In the video, he snaps at her to put on her gloves to give his dogs medicine, walk the dogs, and otherwise "perform wifely duties," as she is clearly emotionally distressed.
But for Crowder, his troubles with his marriage are not the only controversy that he is facing. More people who were once considered to be in his inner-circle, are speaking out on the man that they say he has turned into.
Former Louder with Crowder co-host, Dave Landau, came out swinging this past week after his exit form his gig with his friend.
The comedian appeared on an episode of the Your Welcome podcast with Michael Malice, explaining his reasons for parting ways with Crowder.
"Whatever he has, and whatever he's going through, I think he was bullied at some point in his life," Landau claimed when speaking about Crowder.
"He's become the bully and he doesn't realize it."
Landau told Malice that Crowder kept a "dump"-style button on the show that he used to silence the comedian if he spoke too much.
The comedian went on to say that he loved the staff behind the program and enjoyed working with them "but I think they are kind of just a little bit intimidated at this point to keep their own job."
Landau talked about the frustration that he experienced from Crowder's lack of support or promotion of his own comedy shows.
Next up is the reft between Crowder and Candance Owens after Crowder accused her of trying to extort him with details of his divorce.
Crowder played clips from a January episode of Owens’ show after he announced his divorce, in which Owens attributed a feud between Crowder and The Daily Wire to unspecified personal issues in Crowder’s life.
Crowder pointed to those comments and the "alleged behind-the-scenes attacks" to make his case that the totality of actions amounts to extortion and that Owens was threatening to leak information about his divorce.
Then there was also the very public spilt from The Blaze and his potential partnership and contract disputes with The Dialy Wire.... what can I say? It was messy and the fallout from the move is still taking place.
For Steven Crowder, his life with his wife Hillary began while he was making less than 100,000 a year. Barely kicking it in the middle class, Crowder had big dreams and a vision. He knew that he had the ability to have discussions with people and that others would want to watch him have those discussions.
One thing that I have always known, stars burn brightest right before they explode. The same can be said for people. The only thing that interferes in that process is the people that the person chooses to surround themselves with. Too often, celebrities, politicians, CEOs, and musicians end up surrounding themselves with the type of people that will do nothing for their long-term viability and will be the undoing that leads them straight to destruction.
There is an old proverb that reads, "Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are."
The premise is that the people that were are around us directly influence who we are as people. Based on that, we must be cautious about whom we surround ourselves with because of the short- and long-term implications.
One should not judge their self-worth based on the opinions of others, but personal relationships do have an influence on how you feel, and that includes how you feel about yourself.
Unfortunately for Steven Crowder, the video is not great, and more of his "friends" are walking away and telling their side of the story. But who do we believe?
Stardum, so many dream of living the high life. The life where people know and love you and some hate you but the money makes almost all of the shade cast your way worth it. Oh, the money... designer clothes, cars, and the freedom to not worry about keeping the lights on and never worrying about the repo man coming to take your stuff.
For many, the pressure ends up breaking them. They are shaped by the negative people in their lives, who at the time seem like the greatest friends in the world.
Born in the US state of Michigan and raised in Quebec, Canada, Steven Crowderbecame a child actor at the age of 12 as the voice of the character "The Brain" in the hit children's TV series, Arthur (1996)
Yes, the conservative political commenter got his start as a child actor including various commercials.
As he got older, he faced the cold reality of child actors aging out of thier demographic. He set his sights on the "Just for Laughs" Comedy Festival.
According to IMDB, "Crowder approached a famous comedian and received advice on how to get started in the business, after which he was escorted from the premises, fined a hefty sum, and brutally beaten."
"Once the feeding tube was removed, Steven sauntered on down to a local comedy club to try his hand at the trade. The throwing of vegetables and angry screams of the crowd created an incredible "rush", upon which Steven became immediately addicted and he never looked back. One year later, at 18 years old, Steven returned to the "Just for Laughs" as the youngest Comedian ever to grace the festivals stage (breaking the previous record set by Chris Rock at 19)."
Although his bio on IMDB lists the assault, fine, feeding tube, and being assaulted with vegetables, one has to wonder if the bio consists of some minor satire, as I could not find any corroboration of the reported events. Not saying it is not true, just that it may or it may not be true.
His act was so well received that coordinators decided to feature him on XM Radio and booked him on tours across North America. Now, based out New York City, and fresh off of winning the nationwide "So you Think You're Funny" MySpace Comedy Contest, Steven Crowder continues to please both audiences and critics with his unique brand of comedy and point of view.
Early in his career, Crowder worked for Fox News and posted satirical videos on conservative media platforms. He then began hosting Louder with Crowder, a daily political podcast and YouTube channel with commentary and comedic content. It includes a recurring segment called "Change My Mind", in which Crowder invites passers-by to converse.
In December 2012, Crowder and members of Americans for Prosperity were involved in an altercation at a demonstration in Michigan concerning the state's recently passed right-to-work law.
So you tell me... what does Crowder's future look like? It may be that Crowder needs some really good friends around him right now that can help him make healthy choices, make amends, and get back on the path that is best for him and his family.
My unsolicited advice... people are messy. Life comes with good times and bad times and even the best of us can echo what it means to be the worst of us. However, these are real people with children that need to be taken into account. Unfortunately, casual observers hang onto the drama for entertainment.
Crowder... starve those people of the drama and take care of you and your family away from the limelight and I wish you both well. We all could be better people. We just have to work at it.
